John,

My son has a 756pro so I am familiar with the radio. At the time I bought
the rx340, I thought about just buying a 756pro instead. My rational for
buying
the rx340 was that since I like to program, I can make this pegasus/rx340
work
anyway I like. This rational is why I bought the rx340 with the pegasus. I
like
to make a radio work the way I like it and not be stuck with how the
manuafacturer
decided to make it.

As far as my rx340/pegasus compared to a 756pro, there are pluses and
minuses.
The QSK is better on the rx340/peg. The filters are a little steeper on the
rx340
but not a lot. There is a better selection of filters on the rx340. The
spectrum
sweep on the rx340/peg is not as good as the pro has. The pro's sweep is
virtually
continous and gives the appearance of being alive all the time. The pro has
a built in voice keyer that works great. The rx340/peg allows you to listen
in dual receive with stereo headphones with the rx340 in one ear and the
peg in the other. The pro has dual receive but you cannot separate the
channels
in stereo headphones. I think the pro is a little more prone to receive
artifacts
than the rx340. I think the rx340 front end is stronger.

If you like to shortwave listen, the rx340's synchronous AM is fantastic and
there
are wide filters to select for good fidelity. The pro does not have synch
AM and its
widest filter is 6 khz. The rx340 widest filter is 16 khz.

These are things that each individual must evaluate. Some people don't like
their
rig being tied to the computer.
But with the rx340/peg, you always have me to add a new function to the
software.
Try getting ICOM to add something you might want.
