Yes, I was going to comment on that point but my post was getting
WAY too long.
I think there are two ways to deal with the matter with the PJ's. The
best way in my opinion is to do what you suggest and make the
compensation in the DSP firmware. I hope they do this in a coming
upgrade of the firmware and certainly do it in the 516 and Orion.
However, since TT publishes the control programming instructions,
folks like Carl, N4PY, can compensate via the interface. In the case
of the PJ's, the dit, dah and space timing are controlled by three 16
bit numbers passed from the control program to the radio via the
serial port. For instance, the dit and space factor is :
0.50/speed*0.4166*0.0001677
and the dah factor is 3*ditfactor
So it is clear that it would be a relatively trivial matter to make the
appropriate adjustment to each of the three factors and have ideal
ratios.
BUT, that would not address using and external keyer. Only a
change to the DSP firmware will do that.
Actually, the TT and N4PY control software may already have the
capability to obtain the ideal ratios..........I just have not figured them
out to my satisfaction yet. But as I said in the earlier post. For
most cases, just adjust the weight control in the GUI software until
the sidetone "sounds" right and you are good to go.
