Bottom lines: 1. Extra ain't what it used to be. It's that way because the FCC wants it that way. Why they did so and who did (and didn't) do what to affect that process is another story and another thread for another reflector. 2. There will always be those who pass the test but don't know squat in practice -- they can talk the talk but not walk the walk. Most of those wish to learn how to walk the walk. Don't blame them.
