I wish I knew you all so we could see each others faces as I write.
Since we don't, I'll just pretend and go ahead. Please be patient with me.
I've been up since 5:00 AM with orders from an Oral Surgeon not to eat or
drink anything until after he pulls a broken molar at 9:30 AM and then wait
several hours more. I may just be testy because I can't have any coffee yet!
Maybe you won't jump all over me, but let's see what happens.
Please help me to understand what is going on about "that's not fair .
. . " "my pet peeve is . . ." "everyone should . . ." "eBay does it this way
. . ." "this is the way it ought to be done" and a lot of other comments. Is
this a move by some to set aside our norms and establish a set of rules the
rest of us must follow?
I don't recall seeing any standardrules for sales that this
reflector's Administrator has set that each of us must follow or be booted
off. Yet it seems a few want that to happen because they missed something
they wanted. To me that appears a bit grandiose. In America what is bought or
sold, no matter what venue, is a matter between seller and buyer with the
rare exception of government regulated industries, or intervention with price
controls. And wow, that sure backfired on us all!
You want "total fair," look at the Russian economy a decade or so ago.
A disaster.
When I sold a couple of radios at our local hamfest last month, I did
not have to have anyone's OK to set the price. I set the price. A ham saw
them, wanted them, and we struck a bargain. Are some of you suggesting I not
do that anymore because someone else might come along later who wanted them
as much or more than the actual buyer?
Life simply is "first come, first serve." "Buyer beware." And all the
rest. Not fair, some say. OK, the world isn't fair to all. Not in past
history, not now, not ever. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Several years ago I was sounding off (read "whine") in a face to face
group about how a certain person not present "always gets my goat." A friend
looked me in the eye and gently suggested that I stop leaving my goat on the
front lawn!
Does what I have say make any sense to anyone but me?
