The Paragon 1 does use a 9 volt alkaline or nicad battery. I put a nicad in
the one I have, about 6 yrs ago. It does have a trickle charger built in. As
for the PLL unlock I have had this Paragon for just over 10 yrs. It has
never had to be reset but 1 time. It is a really good rig in my opinion.
