Hi Gang,
I hate to even bring this up, but I am on the brink of selling my Omni 6,
Opt 3 with filters. As I get deeper into VHF+ contesting I find that cannot
afford both the Omni and the new hardware necessary to be competative in
Single Op Portable, i.e. qrp.
If you have both and Omni 6 AND a TS2000, I would like to know the
following, keeping in mind that I still operate a bunch of HF.
1. For CASUAL qso's, CW and SSB, which rig do you prefer?
2. On big contest weekends, does the TS2000 fold up when big signals are
present? I know my Omni 6 is NO PROBLEM in this regard :-)
3. How is the QSK on the TS2000?
I am considering a TS2000 because it has 1.2GHz in the box at 10W. To do
this DEMI gear is about 400 for a transverter and 200 for an amp. Also, the
TS2000 would make my qrp portable VHF station quite compact and save lots
on extra boxes and switching. The other option is to build a K2 and use the
extra cash to get on 1.2G -AND- 10GHz ! That is tempting too. Neither will
happen as long as the Omni is on my desk (-:
