The cell phone elements are not tailored for voice?

I've a couple of nice old mics that used crystals and the crystals being 
hygoscopic
have 'worn out'.

Guess I could try one of the cell phone elements and see if anyone 
notices ;-)
Only reason for doing SSB is so I can participate in the various HI 
emergency nets.
