I guess I don't understand the apparent confusion here.

Every one of the above matters is done by connecting the PTT
output from the computer in parallel with the Amplifier control
line of the Orion (or any other Ten Tec transceiver) as has
already been described. The amplifier will never be hot
switched and you have your choice of PTT CW, semi break-in
CW or full break-in CW with a compatible amplifier. What
could be more flexible than that?

Yes there are disadvantages. Here I use the PTT line for
multiple functions. As a PTT line when on SSB, as a CW keying
line when sending CW from my computer and as a PTT line when
on RTTY/SSTV/PSK. The last two functions use a single
interface line from my computer which is effectively in parallel
with the mic PTT switch. The same line keys the rig on CW
and puts it into transmit for the sound card modes. This would
not be possible if the PTT line was configured as you suggest.
So...with the Ten Tec approach we loose nothing and gain
flexibility. We just have to look at things with an open mind.
