Thanks for reconsidering the cause and effect of the erratic SWR readings.
Might I suggest some sort of short term averaging algorithm to help with the
problem?  Perhaps SWR or reflected power readings need to be averaged for
over a period of 100ms or so, to more accurately reflect the actual SWR
situation.  This should still allow the software time to respond to a
legitimately high SWR reading and fold the power back.  It would seem to me
that high SWR would be caused by a chronic antenna matching problem or a
dramatic change in the antenna or feedline (ie: "broken").  Both would show
as high average SWR and thus fold the power back.
