When the Orion first shipped, the band edges were the hamband edges -
- nothing outside the ham bands.  According to the specs, it was 
supposed to have been 10Khz on each end.

I talked to the engineers about that, and they were concerned about the 
BP filters being able to make even 10 Khz, which ultimately they must 
have decided was ok -- since they did add the 10Khz.  I suspect the issue 
was the transmit side, rather than receive.

I recall someone else posting fairly recently about working with them to 
get it to go a little further to reach some other MARS frequencies, and 
that's probably why they stretched it on the top end of 80.  Of course, 
many MARS frequencies of interest are waaaay too far outside the ham 
bands ....
