Dennis,

As I see it, you do NOT need a Top Ten decoder in this case.

The Top Ten decoder is designed to interface the ORION to any device which
is set up to be keyed by the FT-1000's keying scheme (e.g., filter, antenna
switch).

The Dunestar Model 600 has one keying line per band. It can be set up to be
either positive or negative keyed. It's default setting is positive keying.
It requires 100 mA for relay keying and the ORION can handle up to 250 mA.

I haven't looked into the ORION schematic drawing, but did have a quick
glance at page 27 in the manual. It looks like you must switch the 600 from
its default positive keying to be negatively keyed. You can take the common
+13.8v from the ORION's band data jack and then as you change bands, the
ORION will supply the negative to the appropriate Dunestar band line.

I haven't tried my Dunestar with the ORION yet because unless I run
Multi-Single/2/Multi, I see no need for it. The ORION is good enough as is.
Maybe I'll try it later in the year for CQWWDX.

Rick

Would be interested depending upon price since I probably would not use it
as much as you younger guys who hop all over the country.

BTW, does the Orion built-in band decoder mean I can use it on the Dunestar
without putting in something like a Top Ten decoder? If not, what do you
suggest using?
