The term "Roofing filter" applies to a filter that is at the very first IF
of a receiver chain. This prvents unwanted signals from going any further
in the radio and causing potential problems. Normally what is refered to
as a roofing filter does not do all the bandpass filtering, just early
filtering. In the Orion, the roofing filters are at 9 mhz and wider than
the DSP filters which are at a later stage at the 14 khz IF. The DSP
filters provide a much tigher bandpass with much steeper skirts.
