I missed, by several weeks, the opportunity to buy, from TenTec, a 
factory-fresh Omni VI+ and opted for the Jupiter instead.  I am very pleased 
with the Jupiter, my first software programmable radio.   I would agree with 
your wish of an Omni VII, with a few changes...  I have not seen a band 
scope that equals the true panoramic adapter (CRT type) of the past. 
Instead of placing the band scope in the radio itself, I would prefer a 
video output that could be fed to an external monitor, laptop or desktop 
computer, or, if there is a possibility, a vertical and horizontal sweep 
output that could be fed to an external oscilloscope.   This option would 
provide the user with options to fit his/her individual requirements.

An added feature of an external readout is that the main processor will not 
have to manage an internal display, but simply provide an output that could 
be externally converted to whatever type of display that the user chooses. 
The Panadapters (BC-1068???) of WWII were fed from the IF output of a 
suitable receiver.  I used one for many years, until the power transformer 
developed an internal problem.   It's probably part of the landfill that now 
supports J.F.Kennedy International Airport in NYC...<grin>

I believe that it was K3UJ who had proposed a revised Jupiter that would 
include an Orion receiver... Now that WOULD be a killer radio at a more 
affordable price than the Orion.   Come to think of it...what is needed is a 
real mid-priced radio that would incorporate the best features of the 
Jupiter and the basic-to-intermediate features of the Orion.   I don't own 
an Orion (can't justify the cost), however, after reading of the successes 
of many contest stations that use the Orion, we can be sure that the Orion 
can, and does, hold it's own against the competition.   For those of us who 
routinely chase DX, ragchew, and rarely, if ever, contest... A 
'street-legal' hot-rod Jupiter would be a welcome product.  Until then, I 
have my Jupiter, factory stock, which, when necessary, drives a Kenwood 
TL-922 'afterburner'.
