I noticed two other points not editorially mentioned in the QST review
of the latest Click-meister
rig.
Figure 5 in that review shows very sharp rise and fall times; although
the text says that menu settings
exist to minimize clicks, surely the approximately 1ms rise times shown
in the figure would produce
monumental FT1k type clicks.
Secondly, Figure 6 shows a horrendous transmit noise floor; close in
noise is 20 dB higher than
the Orion measured by the League. That translates to 20dB excess
interference caused to innocent
nearby listeners.
OTOH, putting an attenuator in front of the Orion, or any other
well-designed radio, will not improve
the two tone dynamic range; it raises the MDS and the third order
intercept point by the same
amount. The attenuator merely moves the spurious free "window" around.
