Duane,
you are probably right about the connectors.    Of course with a PC you get 
the capability of a pretty nice big color display and all the file 
management ability for the data so you can put a plot in a file on a disc or 
print it out on paper to take with you.    The average ham is getting access 
to  what was once unobtainable exotic test gear thanks to the PC, software, 
firmware and rf interface boxes.
