Mike, I purchased one of these 3 way cables from the web site below and it
arrived yesterday. I got both the serial port from the PC and the 301
encoder connected to the cable and the cable plugged into the 564 Omni VI
Plus, which was really pretty simple. End result is that the 301 encoder is
totally unresponsive. I tried reversing the encoder DB-25 with the PC DB-25
on the "Y" cable with the same results. The PC control works fine but the
301 remote encoder doesn't function at all. I then plugged just the 301
remote encoder directly into the 564 Omni VI Plus and it functions just
fine, as it should. Of course the PC to 564 also works fine, as it has in
the past. I have the baud rate set at the default 1200 as well as the
"address" code at the default of "04", where I always had it. I then played
around with different baud rates to no avail as even up to 19200, the PC
works fine but the 301 remote encoder does nothing when hooked up in
parallel with the PC by way of the "Y" adapter, so went back to the 1200
baud default setting. I'm stumped now and wonder if you or anyone else has
any suggestions to a remedy for a situation I thought would be an easy, one
minute hook-up without a second thought. By reversing the connections to the
adapter cable and the PC still controlling the rig when connected to either
DB-25 dongle, that pretty much eliminates a problem with the adapter cable.
Help!
Thanks in advance to anyone with a suggestion or solution!

Roger, you could purchase one of these or build your own.
