OM,
My concern is with the initial dit or dah, the meter needle slams
against the peg and then stays there as you noted.

The needle on my Orion II goes to the peak value, whatever level that
may be depending on the power level, and holds at that peak while I
continue to xmit, without moving between dits and dahs. It is very nice.
Does yours work differently?

needle pegs to the right when the transmitter is keyed on CW. I'd be
grateful to know of a damping technique to remedy this.
