  The factory supplied fan on this rig really whines, to the point it
  drove me to try some other alternatives.  Found this inexpensive
  50mm fan on the Internet and was pleased with Directron's
  service.
   
  The fan mounts on the heat sink using two of the original mounting
  screws with the label and frame against the heat sink.  The two pin 
  plug goes into the three pin connector on the board, red wire to Vcc
  and black wire to ground.  Don't over tighten the screws or it will flex 
  the fan's thin back support.  
   
  It blows down into the heat sink like the factory fan and 
  without the side shroud I think it even cools to the sides better.  I
  run CW only and it cools just fine in this mode.  Observe all static
  precautions when inside the radio.
   
  Now when I turn the volume all the way down I hear only silence.
