I installed the LDG OT-11P tuner into my Orion II last week. Other than
their version 1 instructions wasn't modified for the Orion II, I did not
have any real issues installing the device.

The deltas for the Orion II are:

a. You really can't fold the front panel down with the radio upside down as
described in the version 1 instructions. You have to fold the front panel
down with the radio in its normal orientation.

b. I couldn't get the connector through the front panel grommet; too tight
(and I wouldn't recommend trying to force it through). I cut the connector
leads, fed them through the grommet (front to back), and re soldered the
white and black wires.

c. The front panel connector that 'b' above connects to is no longer a 7 pin
connector (as in the Orion I) but a 4 pin connector. The LDG connector
connects to the two middle pins of this connector with the wire leads
orientated to the normal top of the front panel. LDG has indicated that
they will be modifying the instructions.

So far, the LDG matcher does as good or better job at finding matches for my
three antennas(80 and 40 dipoles, and a tri-band on 20, 15, and 10 meters)
as compared with my original Orion I tuner (also was an LDG tuner). In
fact, the matcher tuned to a 1.3 to 1 on my 80 mtr dipole with one leg of
the of the dipole broke in half, and the whole dipole coiled up on the
ground (big wind storm blew it down unknown to me at the time that I tuned
it).

If you don't like a 'tune' at a given frequency, you can 'force' tune by
pushing in the Orion's Tune button and keep it pushed in while letting the
hit the memory tune and then letting the tuner go through a new matching
cycle; when it's through, then let go of the tune button.

As you change frequencies, even on the same band, you still have to remember
to tap the tune button and then re-tap it to let matching pick the best
match from memory for the new frequency (assuming that you already tuned
several places across the band resulting in saved to memories).

With time taken to program the memories with enough sample points across the
band for the type of antenna you are using, re matching becomes much faster.

Hi Everyone,

I see on their web site that LDG is now promoting and
selling their inboard tuner for both the Orion and
Orion II.

Using their AT-MP11 with my Omni V.9, I can attest that
the tuning memories are very convenient and would seem
a great advantage over a tuner without memories.

Is anyone using the LDG in their Orion II of yet?

I remember seeing some initial posts earlier this year
about the LDG tuner not being able to match as closely
as the TT tuner and unable to be tweaked manually for a
better match than initially determined by the unit.

Any comment on the LDG tuner in the Orion II will be
appreciated.
