I have the Orion II running 2.030 and I run a vertical
on 80m and so the band is quite noisy.  I find the NR
works.  However there is distortion on weak signals.  

I am very active with my AGC settings and find that
signals have to raise the S-meter to not be distorted.
 This sort of makes sense.  I find that raising RF
gain and lowering the AGC threshold is necessary to
reduce NR distortion.  

Of course if the signal is strong enough to raise the
S-meter then I can reduce noise just as well with AGC
threshold and/or RF gain.  So I am not sure that NR is
getting me anything.  As a result, I don't usually use
it.
