I would guess that the recommendation was based on the BATTERY TENDER being 
safe to leave plugged in and connected to your battery bank.  The battery's 
will be supplying the power when you are in operation and the charger will 
recharge them when you are doing other things.  I used a 6 volt BATTERY 
TENDER on a porsche 356 that I used very little and it did a good job of 
keeping the battery up and not over charging it.  Over charging is death on 
battery's.
Amanda is probably in sales and thought that you needed a charger that put 
out a 100 amps.
