Orion's RX is not noisier than the rest of the bunch.
On the contrary, it's noise figure is very good
for an HF receiver.

I've measured the following noise figures:

  10.5 - 12.0 dB   main RX, PREAMP on
  17.0 - 21.0 dB   main RX, PREAMP off
  11.3 - 17.9 dB   sub RX

This thread is an example of the fact that many amateurs
make no distinction between the noise figure (which is important)
and the audible noise level (which is irrelevant).
