I highly recommend the Ten Tec 709. My wife, KB6TTC, listening on another
radio with wide open filters, says I sounded the most natural of any
mike/rig combo she has ever heard me on. It doesn't get any better than
that as far as I am concerned. I am not looking to artificially increase
the highs (for DX/Contests) or lows (ESSB), but wanted something that
sounded like me (like in the old AM days, when you could easily tell one
person's voice from another).

It is a hand mike (that's how I use it), but can also be a desk mike with
the optional stand. I like to close talk it, and everyone on the net says I
sound fabulous. I also have the Hiel HM-10 and it does not sound as good
according to those I've talked to, but I still use it when contesting as I
need a handsfree mike for that use. I've been thinking of getting a dual
element pro set / plus for contesting.

No matter what you use, I think you will enjoy the next 6 months of your
life as you discover the incredible performance and flexibility of your new
O II.

New Orion II owner here. Do you folks have any recommendations for a
good mic to use with O2?
I don't want a headset type.

Thanks and 73,
