I'm using a usb to serial that uses the Prolific 2303 chip. As noted, this works fine with Icom 703/706 but not with the Omni.

Serial speed matches, 9600 8N1. Serial speed on the Omni is set using the lock key and option 2. The plug from the adapter is a 3.5 mono. I've never actually seen the plug for the Icom CT-17
