Probably because I'm a slow plodder on the key, I notice the slow recovery on the Orion (v2059) as well. In fact, it seems no faster than my VI+ with slow AGC and delay set at 1. Some time ago N4PY noted just this issue on the list.

Just a minor quibble: with the Orion set up for normal operating, with
8msec risetime (as discussed ad nauseum in the past) and 50% weighting
on the transmitted cw - I'm skeptical about true unmuting of the main
receiver between dit characters at an actual 30wpm.

I love my Orion, but it's QSK isn't one of its high points compared to
other Ten-Tec rigs I've operated.  Too much overhead internally
compared to older generation rigs that aren't controlled by digital
processing inside.
