We can go on at length all day and night about copper, Centurion
weight, xformer weight, power supply designs blah blah blah but none
of this changes two things: There is a problem with the stock plate
transformer in the Centurion and the stock supply under load delivers
what is to me, an unacceptably low plate v. for an amp that is going
to cost $3200. The result is such that it is almost not a stretch to
say you may as well save $2000 and get an AL80B.
Look at the manufacturers rating once, if you believe them or not thats
another topic
Ten Tec, 1000W CW and 650 Digi efficiency 50 to 65 percent
AL-82 1500W CW and Digi efficiency 70 percent.
As stated a AL80 is almost the same as a Ten Tec in ratings.
And I sure do not believe either companies add that states CCS, leave
your key down all
day and come back and tell us how much smoke you see.
Or maybe there is a new meaning to the words Continious Commercial Service
I dont own either amp, I run a old SB-220 most of the time, it does 1300
output,
instant on, I have a Alpha 99 sitting idle, and a 4-1000 that is CCS.
And no
I dont think an Alpha is the best either, crap shoot russian tubes in
the 99 are
not what the old 77DX used to be.
Not bashing any brand or anyone, there are always 3 sides to the story,
your
side, my side, and the truth.
