I 've had my Paragon talking to Logger 32 via the 25 pin serial port for some time, but tried today to use it on CW in this configuration. This Paragon has the Ghiel chip. The rig is being keyed by a stand alone keyer, NOT via the computer

I immediately noticed that when a string of dits were sent at about 25 WPM, the rig missed sending some from time to time. Some investigation showed it was much the same time needed to digest the frequency knob being turned rapidly, before the computer caught up with the new CW setting. It's like it can send 20 or so dits, then the rig comes out of transmit for 3 or 4 dits while the serial port buffer gets emptied, then another stream of dits is ok, etc etc.... I can hold the keyer paddle down with a steady stream of dits, but the rig periodically drops in and out of transmit.

Unplug the serial connector, all is fine. The computer is certainly fast enough, but am I correct in thinking that the 1200 baud capability of the Paragon computer interface can't keep up with such things?

Drat!
