John, I have never used a Shure 444 with my Ten Tec gear but have had excellent reports with one on my National NCX-5 and my Icom 202. Most 444s I have seen have a switch on the bottom that lets you select high or low impedance output. I would try checking that mic out with the switch in both positions. There is another switch that selects VOX or Push to Talk. I normally use an amplified Astatic D104 with my Ten Tecs as those give me excellent reports with my deep bass voice. The Shure mics are excellent and I would give it a try on the air to see what sort of audio reports you get.

my audio peaks on my paragon II with a shure 444 mic are much lower than my
corsair with the same mic. for instance when i give a quick whistle into the
mic in usb i'm only pushing about 80 watts out on the patagon - even lower on
40 meters. RF power is fine, putting out well over 50 watts with the paragon in
tune mode, - the corsair's voice peaks on the other hand are over 100 watts in
side band - no problem - i'm wondering if the mic has something to do with it,
could it be that the input mic impedances between the radios, even though they
are both ten tecs are different and the mic is not matching up well with the
paragon? - that is what i'm hoping - otherwise great receiver on the paragon -
have any paragon owners seen this? thanks again for all your help - i am
certainly learning alot about ten tec's here. sincerely, john
