I have an old 'boat anchor' signal generator that I use, but you can also
use another rig running into a dummy load or a local ham you can hear on
ground wave who can put out a dead carrier for a few seconds. I found that
no adjustment was needed, even on the 300 Hz filter. After tweaking the
settings, the defaults were still the best.
