If you take the old knob you can remove its insert by using a flat tip on
your soldering iron and heat the insert from the inside.
You will melt the plastic on the inside of the old knob, but when the
soldering iron tip heats the inside of the insert it will release the glue
holding
it to the old knob.
Do not speed up the process by pushing or you may leave a mark that will
show up on the outside of the insert.
Let the heat do the work.
Once the insert is removed from the old knob remove any left over glue.
Put contact cement on the new knob and place the old insert on it.
Do not use to much glue in case you have to do this again in the future and
use slow cement so you have a little time to position the insert on the new
knob.
