These are general comments. Many transmitters have a diode bridge circuit to sense the level of RF for ALC circuits. Many TT ALC type faults seem on this reflector, to be one of these diodes opening up. Leaving any rig connected to an antenna all the time invites wind static voltages, or storm surges taking out any diodes. Thus, get the schematic, and trace the circuit and test the diodes for forward and reverse resistance. Be alert to sneak paths and resistive loading effects of associated resistors. One diode might open up and cause similar symptoms to what you have.
