You can adjust the Orion AGC Threshold level in the Menu/Receiver section. Just increase it from the default 1 uV and the noise will appear to decrease.

Subject: [TenTec] O2 vs K3

Wow...I notice just the opposite.... I use the O2 and the K3 mainly for vhf...mostly 6 meters. maybe the noise is different but I have a lot of power line noise and I find that the O2 will take it out completely where as the K3 will not..I also noitce thet the K3 will not take out the very sharp spike of noise..like a switch turning on.. But what I do notice the K3 advantage over the O2 is when setting the volume to a comfortable level and when the signal ends the background noise is quieter on the K3...this might be due to the O2's AGC which we all are waiting for a fix.. meanwhile the O2 seats in the corner covered up while I still play with the K3.... these are both Very good rigs...I don't think we will ever find the perfect rig........but they are close....
