The Omni VI Plus is a much better radio with a few more features, specially for CW. Allows for different configuration of filters than the Omni VI. There is also a difference in the $$ value between the two radios. I'd opt for the Omni VI Plus is the budget allows such. I've owned both of them. Don't confuse the Omni VI, the Omni VI opt 3 and the Omni VI Plus. There is a difference.

Ken:

Thanks for your reply...yes it is an OMNI VI and like you say is
probably used instead of being a demo. I have an OMNI VII and like it
very much. Jeff my friend is a fairly new ham and operates mostly CW so
it sounds like the OMNI VI will fill the bill for him. You do know when
the OMNI VI went out of production? Just curious.

Thanks Again,

Hi Bill,

Are you sure that is an Omni VI and not an Omni VII? The Omni VI
has been out of production for some years. Perhaps Ten-Tec still has one
that has never been sold before and can legitimately be called a "demo"
and not "used." I think it is more likely that they would have Omni VII
"demo" units than Omni VI.
In any case the Omni VI is the best MF/HF CW rig I have ever owned.
There are very few rigs with as good or better performance ratings, and
most if not all of them are quite a bit more expensive. I have read many
complaints on this reflector about the TX or RX audio on SSB, but I
think they are mostly from people who do not understand the difference
between effective communications grade audio and high fidelity audio. I
have no complaints about it for SSB use, but I seldom use SSB.
I cannot comment on the Omni VII, as I have only seen them in
QST and on Ten-Tec's web site.

Folks:

I have a good friend who is talking to Ten Tec about buying a demo OMNI
VI. I read the ARRL product review and it looks pretty good....I would
appreciate it if anyone that has owned or operated the OMNI VI would
give us your opinions and tips. I am biased because I am hooked on Ten
Tec gear myself but I am just not familiar with the OMNI VI. Since the
unit Ten Tec is selling is a demo I doubt if it's all that old but I
don't know for sure.

Your inputs are appreciated..
