I agree with Jack......Unless perhaps you enjoy experimenting with the
computer
aspects of the hobby, by forcing Linux to do stuff with tons of patches, and
hidden drivers, or
wondering why Win7 or Vista won't run something that has always chugged
along....stick with
XP, just like Win98 took a few years before everything caught up to it!

i gave up on Vista totally. i could not run much of the ham radio
software properly, ie LOGic8 and MixW. i reinstalled XP and threw the
copy of Vista in the trash.
Win7 would run the above software properly if my computer's motherboard
supported Win7. sadly some of the drivers for Win7 are not supported by
this older ASUS mobo.
i would recommend checking to see if your mobo will support Win7 and
then getting a copy of Win7. otherwise go back to XP.
