Rip ... The one recommendation that I haven't heard is, why not a used
Orion I? Having owned all of the ones that have been recommended here I
think that you would have a hard time spending your money any better
that that. It has dual receivers, both of which will best a Jupiter, and
the Orion I main receiver will do circles around an Omni VII.
Dollarwise, a used gray Jupiter will go for $700, a new style Jupiter
for about $1200, a used Omni VII for about $2000 and if you want tuners
in them add about $150 to $200. I have seen loads of used Orion I's go
for between $1500 and $2000. I personally bough a mint loaded Orion I
with a tuner for $1500. I loved it so much that I traded it to TT for a
new Orion II but for the dollar, the Orion I was the champion! Nothing
close!!
