You really need to see a SDR running PowerSDR in panadapter mode to fully
appreciate what looking closely to the details of the signal in the bandpass
and signals nearby do to help you real-time tune in a signal, enhance your
understanding of interfering signals, or manipulate your TX signal into a
quiet hole in a pile-up. As a new OMNI-VII owner, I visited my neighbor who
had added a SDR to his ORION-II station; after five minutes of demonstration
of his SDR in panadapter mode, I was ready to buy my own.
Now I seldom chase DX, Contest, or Rag-chew without having the panadapter
running. With some hearing loss, I find the panadapter helps me get on
frequency by seeing just where the lows and highs of a transmitted signal
are in relation to the (suppressed) carrier reference and bandpass high and
low frequency indicators which usually results in the other station hearing
me, even when I 'm running just 100 W and it’s a DX station calling.
Having a panadapter has truly been a paradigm shift in capability and
results at my station.

Greetings Ten-Tec mavens –
I have an Omni VII with its spectrum scope, and often use N4PY software
for control, in addition to the front panel controls on the rig – which
software has a spectrum scope feature –
My question is: Other than being somewhat "real time" updating, what
features and capabilities would a panadapter add to enhance or eclipse
the spectroscope on the rig or in this software ? In other words,
what will it do for me other than be constantly updating?
Thank you.

Happy Trails.
