Thought I would voice in a few comments on TenTec rigs, transmit
power, testing of such, and of course, TenTec service.

TenTec tests the transmit output power on every rig at different test stations.
One station is where we calibrate each rig to generate 100 watts on
all bands. This test station is calibrated periodically with a
calibrated Bird. This calibrated slug, meter, and cable are used to
ensure that several of the test stations in engineering, service, and
the factory all are measuring properly.
The next station is the burn in rack where each rig is put into
various transmit power level tests for various periods of time.
The last station is the final air check where each rig has several
items air checked including power output.

There are several pieces of information that should be known.
Almost every TenTec rig has a way that it's transmit output power can
be adjusted. Some rigs have a way to adjust each band. If the
adjustment is small, then there is usually no problem in doing so. If
the adjustment is not small, then this may point to another issue in
the rig.
Do a master reset, as stated in the manual. If the power is still off,
then please contact the service department.
When performing "transmit power measurements", be sure to perform the
measurement using a good set of cables, a calibrated wattmeter, and a
known good 50 ohm dummy load.

If someone has a specific TenTec rig that is not functioning as per
the rig's published specs, then please contact TenTec service and
discuss this issue with them. They are more than willing to help
analyze the low transmit power situation with you. Sometimes it is
something that they can help you adjust over the phone, either in the
station or on the rig itself, and sometimes it is a component that
needs replacement or adjustment at the factory. Either way, TenTec
stands behind their products, and are here to help you enjoy your
hobby.

Thanks,
John Henry
