Even though this is a an "Omni" discusion, I wanted to add that I have an older Jupiter and use the Audio and RF gain as described, and this plus using the bandwidth control makes the (limited) contesting operation a lot easier and much more pleasant. Backing down the RF gain just makes the noise sink into the background and the signal very readable.
