Bob,

Good choice the 30 - 40.

80 metrs CW - there is life there - that was the band that I started out on with crystal control. Nice choice too. There are QRP hang outs there.

Thanks, guys,

I'm leaning toward the 4030. The sale price does look attractive. Since
my youth I've generally avoided 20 meters. 20 m was the province of the
big guns and I got my start in 1967 when I was in high school. Old
habits die hard. We kids all had fairly modest stations, so we mostly
hung out on 15 meters where there were fewer big guns and one could work
DX with a modest station, when the band was open.

Is there much QRP activity on 80 meters? I occasionally listen on 3560
kHz, but I usually don't hear anything. Maybe the high QRN level limits
QRP operation on 80.

I would go for the 30-40 model.

30 meters is very QRP friendly and there are QRP clubs such as the NW that
meets on 30. I've been using the OHR Explorer II, on 30 Mtrs., since the
90s at the home QTH, as well as France, Guatemala, Costa Rica and so forth -
4 watts with a full-sized dipole and it is a very friendly band and great
DX, plus contest free.

Thanks, Jim

I've only operated QRP on 40m. Which would be the better choice, the
4030 or 4020?.

TEN-TEC has just placed the two band QRP rigs, R4020 and R4030 on sale.
Take a look at www.tentec.com. This sale also includes the QRP go pack
which includes a cool shoulder bag, rig, and antenna.

Thanks
