Yes, if the mode is CW. Not if the mode is SSB because SSB signals (ESPECIALLY during contests) are wide. If you're competing in a SSB contest, it doesn't much matter what you use for a receiver as long as it's not a TOTAL piece of crap. Your ultimate performance is not receiver limited.
