Good stuff, Eric,

Actually quite like I feel about it, except if you don't own a radio with a
big VFO tuning knob, you get used to using the little one.

I don't see the Eagle so much as a mobile rig as I do a GREAT portable rig.
Maybe it's more of a European thing, but since most people here live in
apartments and don't have houses with big yards, quite a lot of operation is
portable.
Often it is out of a car, but fixed portable, not moving. The antennas are
quite a bit better than a mobile whip.
IMO, the Eagle replaced the K2 as the rig of choice for this.

For mobile, well generally we don't use such good antennas while driving,
and I have to say my favorite rig for this is the Icom IC-706 MKII G.
It has all bands up thru 70 cm, and its performance is OK on a small
antenna.
I usually had a 40m and 20m Dunestar Bandpass Filter with me which I would
insert in the antenna lead if I used it on a bigger antenna.
Without that it was worthless here in Europe. 40m crapped out due to weak
IP3, and 20m crapped out due to weak IP2. With the Dunestar BPF, it was
usable on a better antenna.
AND what I really liked was using it with the AH-4 ATU mounted under the
rear bumper of my RV.
That, together with a long jeep whip enabled me to work all bands at the
push of a button.
Oh, and then the removable front panel. I had the radio bolted to the
floorboard and the front panel mounted on a fast disconnect on the
dashboard.
"Convenience".

MOST of those features will be missing when you put the Eagle in the car or
RV.
Of course if you do use the Eagle mobile, you will have the best RX ever
built into a mobile transceiver.
It's just that for my type of casual mobile work, you don't need that much
RX.

Oh... I like it, so don't get me wrong. I meant the Omni VII in addition to
the Eagle in my shack. For me... It's a tad small for my use as the primary
HF radio is all. I realize it was designed for a certain market so I have no
reason to complain. It's a personal preference thing is all. It's inherent
design requires the different levels of menus which bugged me a little at
first, but have started using software control and can make some adjustments
from the computer now. Tuning knob is a tad small for my taste - little
things like that.
Since I got my Eagle I've had nothing but great audio reports on SSB, AM,
and its a breeze on digital modes with HRD. Haven't set the keyer up yet
because I've been busy and need to get my code speed back up (it's not like
riding a bicycle).
Once I build my new computer I will buy a copy of N4PY's software and get a
Pan adapter and enjoy it more. Maybe a second SDR receiver and add even more
enjoyment.
Over time if I do get a larger Ten-Tec then I'll probably take the Eagle
mobile where its design goal (sweet spot) IMO makes it really shine. By then
the current mobile rig IC-706MKIIg will retire to the shack for multimode
VHF work.
I am grateful Ten-Tec built the Eagle because it allows those of us who have
to invest in our hobby over time, or cannot (or don't want to) cough up the
money required for an Orion or the Omni VII can still procure a top shelf
SDR radio. (I have two teenage daughters to help get through college so I
put a governor on my hobby funds)
In summary - no real complaints.

What don't you like about your Eagle, Eric?
I have NEVER had buyer's remorse about buying mine and I sold a brand new K3
to buy the Eagle.

Gosh... I hear so much about the Omni VII I have buyers remorse on the Eagle
(but I like it to). Maybe I can be extra good this year and see if Santa
might stuff an Omni VII down the chimney!?!?
