Yes, I was about to make the same suggestion.  Something like ten years 
ago, Chinese factories were turning out $100 copies of $1,500 German 
mics. They worked, but the QC was horrendous. Ditto for pirated versions 
of $1550 Shure mics, and for standardized connectors.
