Good news.

1)  I was able to install Firmware ver. 1.29 and the radio functions 
again.  I must have selected an inappropriate firmware version for this 
particular example.
2)   Transmit output is restored.  The problem appears have been the 
caused by a faulty right angle adapter.
After a master reset, it appears to work properly again.

So...  a bit of a false start, but I now have a functional radio.  Sorry 
for the unnecessary bandwidth.
