Tnx for the ideas.  The button also doesn't appear to do anything with ATTN or 
with the TX sub option under MENU.  All other buttons seem ok.  I removed the 
front panel and reseated connectors but no joy.  Looking at the schematic 
tbutton switch seems to be mounted on the lcd circuit board and goes via traces 
to an encoder chip on the same board so there are no connectors involved that I 
can see. So looks like a return to factory.
