Isn't the FT-450D made in China under the Yaesu label? I seem to understand that to be the case.

Bob, that's "your" concern (mine too), but it doesn't seem to concern the
people who continue to buy FT-450D's.
And of course many other dirty rigs.
Those guys won't hesitate to buy one of these.

My concern is the spectral purity. I know it may say it meets "bla bla" but
from my experience that is just text printed on a label. Yes the label is
required for the item to be sold in the US but does it really meet the
requirements? Two current and popular transceivers I've recently repaired &
tested do not meet spectral purity. Yet both have labels indicating they
do conform.

Buy the crap radios & amps but don't complain about crap performance. After
all one gets what they paid.......not much.

Along with the transceiver clones, there are amplifier clones.
A clone of the OM-Power amplifiers has been selling down under for
about a year.

Apparently they have opted to test the Australian market first.
Closer to home?
They entered the market for about $2500 but are now selling for close
to $2K.

Array Solutions sells OM-Power amplifiers in the states.
See: http://www.arraysolutions.com/Products/OM_Power/OM_Power.htm

And here's a link to the Chinese amplifiers:

TWO QUESTIONS for you guys:

1). Would you rather pay $7K for an original OM-Power, made in the
Slovak Republic or $2K for what looks to be the same amplifier, but made
in China?

2). Regardless of how you answered #1, what do you think most people
will do?

OK, so some of you answered "neither" and will stick with "made in
America".
How much longer?

IMO the cheap clones will cause the good OEMs to switch their business
to something else, or simply close their doors.
Not today and not tomorrow but within 5 years!
