I was working on my Omni VI and put it back in its position on the desk.
Rehooked everything and turned it on. There was no receiver output, the radio
was on and totally deft. Shut it down right away and started checking every
thing, found nothing out of place. I smelled a FAINT burning smell ,till I shut
it down. To make a long story short ,I found a short in the TX/in rca jack,
repaired it ,looked around and found or saw nothing. I repowered the radio, no
longer any smell and the omni VI seemed to work fine. The radio keyed as it
should, put out full 100 watts and all functions seem work. Any one have any
idea of what component could have over heated while being shorted ? any way to
test the circuit associated with each jack? Hopefully I caught it in time. Any
iseas would be appreciated.
