Absolutely worth fixing! The circuit is fairly simple and parts readily
obtainable. The symptom sounds like a shorted bridge rectifier.
Someone mentioned there were multiple large electrolytic caps in
parallel. Surge into those could be taxing to the amp rating of the
bridge you had. Up the bridge rating by buying one twice the amperage
if it fits the box. Put some heat sink grease on the flat bottom of the
bridge to couple the heat better to the case as a heat sink. Check
manufacturer and see if the amp ratings they use assume the bridge is
mounted on a heat sink of a certain size.
