That Cap issue is only a problem with high power.
I have never run more than 750w with mine and usually only about 500w.
I did purchase the caps (in Russia/ebay) but never bothered to install them
because I have never had an issue.
If I ever do, I'll install the new caps.

the dial cord, that is 1/2 hr of time and $0.50 in materials.
The biggest improvement which can be made and should be made with this series
is to replace the disc ceramic capacitors {8 of them} with some real RF rated
doorknob capacitors. This takes about an hour and $25 in parts. The SWR drift
issue with high power will be eliminated in doing so.
Yes, I'd say a clean working 238, any version, should be easily worth
$275 or more.
