Thanks Rick/Bob/Ken for your kind replies on contact cleaner which I'll
investigate.
I actually thought the problem went a bit deeper when I saw this on U-tube. Not
so much the video but the comment on electrolytics below by WA$AOS which wasn't
followed thru..

Malcolm,

Here in GERMANY we use a cleaner called "Kontakt WL".
It is actually just a rinse.
For really gummed up Contacts, we apply "Kontakt 60" (cleanser) and let it
sit for about 15 minutes.
The we rinse it thoroughly with Kontact WL.

Thanks Bob though a tall order looking at the innards of the O6!
Bearing in mind I live across the pond what contact cleaner do you recommend

Sounds like time to clean connectors. This generally applies to all radios
which are 10+ years old. Never spray anything into the radio!!!

Using a cotton swab such as a Q-Tip, apply contact cleaner to the cotton
swab, unplug one cable, and wipe the male pin(s). The plug in the cable and
unplug it a couple of times to provide wiping action of the female contacts.
Usually this corrects 90% or more of all issues and the radio is good for
another 10+ years.

Hi all... Fault symptom as follows:-
At switch on Omni VI "motor-boating" before locking in then operates
normally. Later it emitted a "drift-like" sound as if going out of lock and
again returned to normal.
Some days later after similar to above it drifted off completely then
emitted a permanent low frequency buzzing noise in the LS which remained
even when the Tune button was pressed.
All this time the O6 TX appeared to key and output normally but there was no
sidetone only this buzzing from the LS..
Now all has returned to normal and I cannot pursue but would appreciate
anyone's thoughts or who maybe has experienced same fault condx.
