I agree. The elastic band Ten Tec used to pull the dial pointer back was
ingenious in terms of value and simplicity. However, that stuff does not last
forever. I have found very good replacement elastic string at sewing centers.

The PTO rebuild is a chore but almost always produces good results. Just don’t
lose any of the tiny bits because Ten Tec no longer supplies kits for this task.

The PTO is really pretty forgiving even if the plastic bits are worn. The
finished assembly might not look pretty under the microscope but it will still
work if the old grease is gone and new grease put in its place.

A jewelry ultrasonic cleaner is more than big enough for PTO parts and one is
very cheap and will save you a lot of grief. Use something like white gas for
the first clean to remove the grease, then 97% alcohol to remove the white gas
residues.

Use common sense fire prevention and inhalation prevention practices, of
course. Working outdoors simplifies this a lot.

One hint is worthy of mention: Take high resolution photographs of the inner
parts before you disassemble anything. I generally take three photos of
disassembly process steps so I know where everything goes and in which
direction.
